CHURDHAR TREK , SIRMAUR
Churdhar Peak is situated at elevation of 3,647 metres and is the highest peak in Sirmaur district . It is also the highest peak in the outer Himalayas. The peak has a great religious significance for the people of Sirmaur, Shimla, Chaupal and Solan of Himachal Pradesh. Churdhar is a holy place related with Shri Shirgul Maharaj , a deity widely worshipped in Sirmaur and Chaupal.
Churdhar is also a famous wildlife sanctuary. It covers about 56 square km of forest and home of different species of flora and fauna such as deer , Monal and different kinds of birds and also there are oak , pine , deodar etc . some famous species of flora and fauna in Churdhar wildlife sanctuary.
The main trek routes to reach Churdhar peak are from Nohradhar and Sarahan. From Nohradhar ( Sirmaur ) trek is about 14 km .You can visit Nohradhar by taxy and bus etc. from Solan ( Himachal Pradesh ) , also from Sarahan ( Chaupal ) trek is about 8 km. Local people from shimla distt. use this trek to reach Churdhar. Best time to visit Churdhar is in June to August . In other months peak is covered with snow .
