Gobind Sagar Lake , Bilaspur ( Himachal Pradesh )
Gobind Sagar Lake is a man made lake situated in Bilaspur and Una districts of Himachal Pradesh . The lake is formed by Bhakra Dam which is one of the highest gravity Dam in India . The Reservoirs is on the River Sutlej and this lake is named in honour of Guru Gobind Singh ( Tenth Sikh Guru ) . Bhakra Dam is one of the world's highest gravity dam , the Bhakra Dam rises nearly 225.5 m above its lowest foundations . Bhakra Dam was built under the supervision of the American Dam - builder , Harvey Slocumwork began in the year of 1955 and was completed in the year 1962. This Dam was built to maintain the level of water , the flow of Beas river was channelized to Gobind Sagar by the Beas - Sutlej link which was accomplished in the year 1976.
Gobind Sagar Lake is the biggest man-made lake in Himachal Pradesh . It covers an area of 90km . This place is also known as one of the Adventure Tourism Destination in Himachal Pradesh . The lake is very famous for : Site - seeing , Recreational activities and Water Sports activities such as Swimming , Boating , Surfing , canoeing etc. Himachal Pradesh Tourism Department Corporation organised water sports activities and provide all equipments to Adventure seekers .
This lake is the best tourist destination in Bilaspur distt. of Himachal Pradesh . Every year Nalwari Fair is organised on the bank of Gobind Sagar Lake . The lake is situated on the foot of Bandla Hill which is famous paragliding site in Distt. Bilaspur . The lake is also one of the Bird Sanctuary in Himachal Pradesh where different species of birds are found .
Water transportation is available there to reach nearby places of Bilaspur . The lake can be easily reach by personal vehicle or by walkig for 20 minutes from Bus stand .
